Waterfront Indie Film Festival Concludes on a High Note

The inaugural Waterfront Indie Film Festival (WIFF), held from October 2, celebrated the spirit of independent cinema with film screenings, insightful masterclasses, and engaging panel discussions. Curated by filmmaker Kabeer Khurana, the short film segment offered a platform for emerging talent to showcase their creativity and connect with industry professionals. A major highlight was the masterclass by Rajesh Mapuskar and Suchitra Krishnamurthy, where Mapuskar reflected on his journey behind Ventilator, while Suchitra shared her candid thoughts on the industry, calling the nepotism debate “a greedy culture.” The festival also screened Sujay Dahake’s Marathi film Shyamchi Aai and hosted a dynamic panel featuring Hansal Mehta, Tushar Hiranandani, Rohan Sippy, and Vishal Furia, who discussed the evolving landscape of independent filmmaking in India. Supported by the Tuli Research Centre, WIFF 2025’s debut edition left audiences inspired and optimistic about the future of indie cinema. As screenings continue until October 6, WIFF promises to return with more thought-provoking films, collaborations, and conversations celebrating creativity and storytelling.
